Wedding Charts vs SeatPlan
Both tools let you design a seating chart free in the browser and charge to save and print it. SeatPlan is a general event tool with AI floor-plan import; Wedding Charts is built only for weddings. Here is where each one is the better pick.
Choose SeatPlan if
- You want AI to lay out your room from a photo or PDF of the venue plan
- Your event isn’t a wedding: a gala, conference, classroom or restaurant
- You only need one PDF and will finish within 90 days
Choose Wedding Charts if
- You want a full year to plan and change your mind
- You need the wedding stationery: seating poster, escort cards, place cards and caterer lists
- You want automatic seating that keeps apart the guests who shouldn’t sit together
- You and your partner edit the same chart without overwriting each other

The free plans are almost the same idea
SeatPlan popularised “design free, pay to save,” and Wedding Charts works the same way: you can build the whole chart without an account or a card, and you pay when you want to keep it or print it. On Wedding Charts the free chart is kept in your browser on that device, and you can open every PDF as a preview before deciding.
Price: one-time versus yearly
SeatPlan charges once (£8 or £14) and keeps your work for 90 days. Wedding Charts is $19 a year and keeps the chart for the whole year, for up to three events. If you are seating a wedding next month, SeatPlan is cheaper. Most couples start their seating chart months out and change it until the week of the wedding, which is where a full year helps.
Who is ahead where
Where SeatPlan is ahead
- AI floor-plan import. Upload a photo or PDF of the venue plan and SeatPlan lays out the room. On Wedding Charts you start from a template, draw the room to scale, or import the venue’s CAD (DXF) drawing.
- Wallet passes. Guests can add their seat to Apple or Google Wallet. Our guest seat finder is a web page behind a QR code.
- Other events. SeatPlan covers galas, conferences, classrooms and restaurants. Wedding Charts only does weddings.
Where Wedding Charts is ahead
- Wedding stationery. A seating poster for the entrance, escort cards, place cards and per-table caterer lists, all print-ready from the same chart.
- Auto-seating. Seat everyone in one step while keeping groups together and keeping apart the guests you mark.
- Two people, one chart. If you and your partner edit at the same time, both sets of changes are kept instead of the last save winning.
- Excel both ways. Import a guest list straight from Excel, and export a workbook for the caterer with meal totals per table.
Switching from SeatPlan
Export your guest list or seat list from SeatPlan as a spreadsheet, then choose Import Excel or CSV in Wedding Charts. Names, groups, meals and RSVPs are matched to the right columns automatically.
